Risk of Harm
Anger Spectrum ~ Safety Assessor ~ Self-Harm
At Dashometrics we are saddened every time we hear about another incident of mass violence that often seem so random in nature. It is this type of violence in particular that our first product in this category seeks to help predict. All of us understand there is no tool that can perfectly predict the people and times these tragic events will occur. But we owe it to ourselves to do the best we can with what we have and the Anger Spectrum-1 with related Interpretation and Intervention Guides is a tool that we hope can at least help.
Once again, the concept with our products is to be brief, effective, simple to understand and relevant. While there could conceivably be many users for this product, we are especially targeting schools, colleges and employers as users.
We strongly encourage our customers and users to provide feedback on this product as we want it to be as accurate and useful as it can be as quickly as it can be. We are also very interested in acquiring a research partner for this product so that we can continually use data and evidence of past results to improve its predictive value. |
Anger Spectrum-1
Anger Spectrum-1 is specifically designed to diagnose accumulated or stored anger and thereby predict those who are at higher risk of committing violence against others. It is not intended to be a precise instrument, but is a tool that can be used in conjunction with others to screen for those at a higher risk of violence. It is also meant to diagnose those who are more likely to have anger that is highly disruptive to relationships and/or self-harmful in terms of its consequences. It should be carefully noted this is a self-report instrument.
Anger Spectrum-1
The Anger Spectrum-1 Supplement provides a forum for narrative responses about anger. These responses may or may not have forensic value. It is possible some respondents will disclose their own plans for violence as they have mixed feelings about following through with these plans. The Anger Spectrum-1 Supplement's greatest value may be in the earlier identification of parties with stored anger who are at risk for future violence in the absence of intervention.
Anger Spectrum-1
Given the nature of the application, it is especially important to have a means by which to interpret The Anger Spectrum-1 and this is the purpose of the Anger Spectrum-1 Interpretation Guide. As noted in the product itself, Dashometrics is looking for research partners that can help develop the precision of this instrument.
Anger Spectrum-2
The Anger Spectrum-2 is one of the few, if only, brief assessment tools that not only diagnoses anger but also provides a therapeutic framework for treating it. It is intended to compliment the Guilt Spectrum-1 and users will instantly understand the symmetry between these two instruments. This instrument will allow you to scale the intensity of anger, understand if the patient or client experiences anger in a rational way and help allow them to act on their anger in the productive way human beings are meant to.
Anger Spectrum-2
Whereas the Anger Spectrum-1 is oriented toward violence prediction and response, the Anger Spectrum-2 is oriented more toward long term anger management. Thus, the Anger Spectrum-2 Interpretation Guide" helps determine the specific anger management needs of the respondent.
Anger Spectrum-2
The Anger Spectrum-2 Intervention Guide will allow anger management treatment planning based on the anger profile established under the Anger Spectrum-2. It should be noted that whereas some respondents will be "over-angered" others will be "under-angered" and each type will have its own set of treatment interventions.
Safety Assessor-1 |
The Safety Assessor-1 is a product that is meant to screen a certain type of violence risk, namely someone willing to report those tendencies on a self-report form in direct response to risk-probing questions. As long as it is understood there are some respondents who will NOT reveal their violent propensities, our experience is that some will and that it is worth the effort to screen for them. Furthermore, it is possible our on-going research will reveal patterned defensive profiles for guarded respondents not willing to acknowledge their risk at face value.
Self-Harm-1 |
The Self Harm-1 is a product meant to be used where there is reason to believe there is risk for suicide. It also attempts to give some intervention guidance, though it should be stressed that the suggestive ideas on this list should not be considered all-inclusive. Users should find its means of addressing risk straightforward and progressive.
Self Harm-1 Interpretation
The Self Harm-1 Interpretation Guide provides important information and qualifications about the use of Self Harm-1. While our experience is that many client/patients at elevated risk of suicide will self-disclose this propensity, it should not be assumed that all will do so. Thus, providers should always exercise other forms of vigilance in this area for more guarded clients. We also encourage providers to take the extra time needed to get additional training in assessing and managing suicide risk. We especially encourage providers to look at the research dealing with the costs and benefits of no-harm contracts.
